I would say that the Apple iPad is the single, most useful pice of portable computing equipment that I have ever owned. It boots almost immediately, it downloads web sites like lightning and I now know that I never want to be without one. The only downsides that I can think of are first that it has no USB port; Apple have kept things close to their chest by only allowing a proprietary Apple connection which then interfaces to iTunes on the PC which can either be a MAC or PC running Windows or another OS. Secondly, Apple have not allowed Adobe Flash to run on the iPad; this is a bit of a shame as a lot of websites use Flash to animate themselves. However I understand that websites are now being written in some sort of HTML which allows animation without Flash so this niggle with the iPad will hopefully diminish as time goes on. Otherwise the iPad is superb and there are some real bargains to be grabbed on eBay - I bought mine as an "open box" model though with full warranty and at about £100 below list for the 3G, 32gB model. If you are hesitating then stop and go ahead and buy one - it really will change your life for the better.Read full review
Bought as a Christmas present for my wife - I teach IT and am pretty clued up with regards to MS PCs, but it is the first Apple product I have used: It's uncannily good - starts up immediately and has been incredibly well-designed; the only thing I really miss from a PC is the ability to alt-tab to instantly switch active windows. Good reception on both WiFi and 3G (I managed to find a T-Mobile sim on eBay giving 12 months internet for just £19.75!). Synching with the laptop is a doddle and battery life is astounding for any piece of electronic kit. Plenty of good free apps available - and no worries about viruses/trojans with this OS. Undoubtedly expensive when compared with the current android tablet crop, but I'm so impressed that I'll probably get one myself when I've saved enough beer tokens. My wife finds the Facebook, iTunes and eBay apps to be excellent. On the downside, the camera(s) are not exactly a threat to Olympus or Pentax (but they're not really meant to be), the charging/synching lead is too short for practicality and you definitely need to invest in both a screen protector and a case or cover. It's so addictive that we may have to think about increasing our internet usage allowance with our ISP.Read full review
I bought the iPad2 because, as a top of the range tablet, it presented good value for money. Although it is not really a substitute for a laptop, many of its valuable additional functions very effectively complement a normal computer. The availability of so many useful apps is of great advantage, and the iPads portability and speed of operations very beneficial. Its limitations are very few. i-Pads are top of the range tablets whose capabilities cannot be bettered by other products which attempt to operate in a similar way.
The IPad 2 sufferers with one major fault: It's wireless. If you look on the Apple forum you will find 74 pages of the same problem going back to the launch of the item. Apple insists that the problem lies not with their product but with the various types of wireless routers in use. That is pretty strange as I bought mine as an update to the IPad 1 which never had any connectivity problems. Indeed when I put the two of them side by side the IPad 2 consistently lost the connection and the IPad 1 worked with no problems. Perhaps the most telling aspect of this fault was the quickness with which Apple exchanged the product in their shop for a new one, which is slightly better but still loses the signal from time to time. In short unless you really need to update, I would probably wait for a while most of the features are not that much of a buzz.Read full review
This was purchased to replace a relatively unused lap top. It's ideal for the purpose I use it for, it's slightly heavy for the size but overall it's well worth the money.
